Reuben the Lumber Jack

I forgot to take a before picture. This picture from this winter was the first one I found.

I have to say, Reuben is pretty good with a chain saw. I was really worried the tree would land on our neighbor's cars. They are never home and Reuben didn't want to wait for them to move their cars.

Our beautiful blue spruce tree got some kind of bug this spring. It went from a pretty green to brown and dead all over in about a month. The tree was taller than our house. We were afraid that with all the severe weather we've been having it could potentially fall. So Reuben decided to cut it down. This is the second tree we've had to cut down in our yard. A few years ago we had to cut down a giant willow tree. The house looks naked now.

Now the plan is to clean up and add landscaping. We also are going to rip out the grass/weeds and either seed or sod the front yard.

Baby Felsheim Shower invitations

I love making cards. When Debbie asked if I wanted to help throw Dawn a baby shower I knew I wanted to make the invitations. I think it adds the perfect touch to make cards specific to the theme of the shower. Dawn chose the baby bedding called Bumble by Carter's.

Debbie's Birthday

Yesterday was Debbie's birthday. We ordered pizza and enjoyed each others company while the kids played. It was a fun and relaxing evening.

Evan Finally has a Loose Tooth!

I wanted to take some pictures of Evan before his baby teeth started falling out. Finally at age 7 he has a loose bottom tooth.

Neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt

Don't you just love how the boys are using Bare Minerals totes for Easter baskets.

Pink Eye

Both boys woke up this morning with pink eye. They must have been exposed at the same time to wake up the same day infected. So Reuben stayed home from church with them. I told Reuben that he needed to start the laundry while I was gone. He striped their beds and got the ball rolling. We washed sheets and blankets and their pillow pets. I was behind in doing laundry anyways so I decided to do the laundry load after load until it was all done. In all I did 2 loads of bedding, 3 loads of darks, 1 load of whites, and 1 load of towels. What's really impressive is it's all folded and put away too.

Then I cleaned all the surfaces that don't usually get cleaned on a weekly basis like door handles. It's nice to know everything is clean and germ free for a least a few hours. I've been on the boys all day to wash their hands. We did let them play in the back yard a little today. The weather was so nice today it would have been torturer to make them stay inside.

When I thought Logan had been abducted

Last night was the worst night ever. But...it could have been so much worse. Reuben was gone for the night. He had a work event at Dave and Busters and I knew he would probably not get home until midnight. I made the boys dinner and we enjoyed sitting out on the deck to eat. Then we were off to Evan's baseball practice. When we got home from practice the boys were hungry again and so they ate a snack then got ready for bed. They were both so tired from being out late that both boys fell asleep as soon as their heads hit their pillows. Knowing that I had the TV to myself tonight I headed downstairs to our family room. Around 10:30 I decided I better go to bed. I got up off the couch, stopped in the laundry room to get clothes out of the drier, then headed up stairs. I stopped at the front door and realized that I had forgotten to lock it. So I locked the door and went up stairs.

Reuben and I always shut the boys bedroom doors before we go to bed at night. Logan's room is first on the left. I poked my head in and didn't see Logan right away. So I walked over to his bed where there were a pile of blankets and began carefully lifting each one assuming to find him at the bottom of the pile. When I didn't find him there I figured he either went into my bedroom or Evan's room and fell asleep there. So a glanced in Evan's room then mine. Next I went back down the hall and glanced in the hall bathroom as I walked by. Then the kitchen, living room, dinning room and then back downstairs to the family room. Then I thought... I must have just missed him somewhere.

So back upstairs where I started all over again. This time remembering that the front door had been unlocked. This time I ripped all the covers off Logan's bed. Looked under his bed and carefully in the closet. Next room. I took most of Evan's blankets off his bed careful not to wake him up. I checked under Evan's bed and in his closet. This is how I continued through my room, bathroom, hall bathroom and kitchen. When I got back out to the living room I checked behind furniture, coats hanging on the back of the rocking chair. I went out to the back three season room, opening the sliding door and turning on the lights calling Logan's name. Then I headed back downstairs again. Went to the garage, laundry room, and family room. Then I ran back up stairs and opened the front door and called out his name.

Now I knew I had to call someone and I knew Logan wasn't in the house. I don't remember who I got a hold of first. But I knew my mom and dad were closer than Reuben. I called my mom, she didn't answer. I called my dad he didn't answer. I called Reuben and when I heard his voice I think I lost all since of control. I was historically trying to tell him that I couldn't find Logan. I kept saying, "He's not here. I can't find him. I can't find Logan." Reuben said he was leaving right now to come home. Then we hung up.

Then I remember talking to my mom. I was standing between my living room and dining room. I was pacing back and forth while I was crying on the phone with my mom. I turned to face the table and saw him. I remember saying, "I found him, I found him." Reuben was trying to call in at that moment so I hung up with mom and answered his call. I told him I found Logan.

Our family room is under construction right now. So our dinning room table is pushed up against the wall. Our computer is at the end closest to the back sliding door. I had walked right past him. Logan was curled up in a ball laying on his side on the chair with his blanket covering him.

I scooped him up and took him straight to his bed and laid him down. Then I turned and walked right out of the room. I just couldn't stop crying. The feeling of total relief was overwhelming.

While talking to my mom she had gotten in the car and started driving over to my house. Just a few minutes after I had gotten Logan back into his bed, my mom arrived. I opened the door and gave her a big hug and just cried to my eyes felt swollen. She wanted to stay until Reuben was able to get home. After Reuben got home the three of us talked for awhile. It felt awful to tell the story again and relive the feeling of thinking my son was gone.

It took awhile to relax and be able to lay down and go to sleep. But when I did go to bed I fell asleep right away. I was emotionally drained. I slept through the night and woke up to my alarm clock still feeling tired.

I had a hard time keeping my mind off this today. I know that everything is fine and Logan is OK but it is so hard not to think the worst. Most people know that Reuben is a heavy sleep walker. Evan has also had some sleepwalking episodes. But Logan has always been my good sleeper.

(I have to get Evan off the bus)

I'm back, 2 days later, to finish this entry.
Logan has always slept through the night. Even after he was potty trained he didn't have any accidents during the night. But the night before this happened Logan slept walked. He came into our room and insisted on sleeping in my bed. When I took him back to his bed and laid down with him he was upset with me. I thought he wanted me but that wasn't the case. He wanted to be in my bed. So as I'm laying next to him he got more upset and tried to move further away from me. I realized then that he was not really awake. I left his room and he laid down and was back to "sleep" again.

Now that he has been up two nights in a row, I know that I have a third sleepwalker in my house. So much for getting a restful night of sleep.

We are going to look into getting a alarm system for the house. Just the kind that will signal that a door has opened. Lindsey's old house had a censer that beeped every time the door opened. I just want to make sure that I can hear when someone is leaving or entering the house. To think of one of the boys walking outside in their sleep scares me to death.

I'm sure I will have many more stories to post about my families sleeping walking adventures.
